Cosplay, short for costume play is the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, video game, or from the Japanese genres of manga or anime. During Comicon I photographed show attendees participating in cosplay at the convention. Much like the heroes and villains they portrayed, their every day identities were shed as they donned their new identity.
The participants were photographed in studio in front of a white wall and were left to present themselves as they pleased. My hopes were to capture them as they wanted to be seen, enacting the deception they created.
Their costumes are both simple and elaborate, all created with attention to detail and accuracy of they identity they are portraying. Each stitch is a labor of love, each costume element achieved through creative ingenuity.
